New York Times Best Selling Author Jen Hatmaker delighted the crowd with hilarious anecdotes about her five children. Then, the keynote speaker began to praise the measurable impact of Interfaith’s work, likening the organization to a pack of elephants in the wild. In moments of vulnerability, the formation of elephants stands strong:
“These families are the definition of vulnerable, and Interfaith is like a shield around them, protecting their hope and possibility. There is great power in your pack, and you are teaching these families how to do it right so one day they’ll take their place in formation and pass it on.”
She ended with the note to Interfaith supporters and families: “I bless you and honor you, and please count me in as a permanent member of your formation.“
Jen took the podium after Shalonda Stewart, a 2019 Interfaith graduate, who shared a heartfelt testimonial. The entire room was teary-eyed as Shalonda told her story of becoming homeless after a 35-day government shutdown left her unable to pay rent and other bills. Shalonda and her two children, ages 7 and 10, graduated from Interfaith in September 2019 and are now happier and more financially stable than ever. As a gift for Shalonda’s hard work, we partnered with CORT Furniture to provide a surprise home makeover for the Stewart Family.
